Five Ways to Force a Divorce

Congrats! You started a family business, everyone's on board. That's fantastic!

Fast forward 6 months--your spouse is griping that they never see you, your business isn't making money and you've experienced what it's like to work with your nephew Bob and his slacker attitude. You're trying to hold it all together alone.

You're at a crossroads, one every business comes to.

If you continue "business as usual", you risk a divorce. Maybe it's a literal divorce from your spouse or maybe a spatial divorce from a different family member...either way, it's ugly.

HERE ARE THE 5 QUICKEST WAYS TO FORCE A DIVORCE

  1. Be mentally absent. Don't share your feelings. Keep them locked up tight. Try to handle everything alone.
  2. Better yet, share your feelings with an employee or someone on the outer layers of relationship with you. Then your spouse will know they don't matter and you can't count on them to understand your problems.
  3. Be physically or mentally absent. Don't come home. And when you do come home, don't unplug. Take up a bad habit to cope with the stress, like drinking too much and saying regrettable things or swiping through social media time wasters or eating copious amounts of food.
  4. Make big decisions about money by yourself...like taking a second mortgage on your home to pay off business debt without talking through all the options with your spouse. Make decisions that affect your whole family without them.
  5. Use every minute you're together to talk about business, plan business events, celebrate business wins, brainstorm problems with employees, rehash customer feedback. Act like a business machine, obsessed with your business success at the expense of your relationship.

Do any of these sound familiar?

Yes?

Then I'm here to tell you that your relationship is circling the drain. You need to refocus, stat!

Lift your head up and fly to the 50,000 foot level, where you can see your legacy. What truly matters now? Is it all business success that drives you? What about health? Your partner? Your family? Your passions outside of work? Your environment? Your personal growth?

It's time to reimagine your life.
